A pioneer in Arizona healthcare, Mark Hillard has been a transformational leader in for-profit, nonprofit, and government organizations including health plans, hospital systems, and physician groups.
Currently he is the President of Emerging Markets for Equality Health. Driven by a mission to help underserved populations access quality healthcare, Mark and his team are making a lasting impact on the industry by creating the first pathways to integrated clinical, behavioral, and social care.
Mark has established himself as a respected healthcare leader with a breadth and depth of experience gained by working in numerous administrative roles in states throughout the Western U.S. He started his career in healthcare finance and has served as the Chief Financial Officer for Mission Oaks Hospital in San Jose, California, as well as St. Luke’s Health System and Maricopa Integrated Health System in Arizona.
While working as Chief Operating Officer at the University Physicians Health Plan in Tucson, Arizona, member satisfaction improved significantly, and membership increased by more than 40 percent, facilitating continued expansion with the State Medicaid agency.
As the Chief Executive Officer of Maricopa Integrated Health System, the largest public integrated-health system in Arizona, Mark was instrumental in guiding the organization to a newly created tax district, thus preserving the entity for years to come.
Mark spent eight years at Dignity Health Medical Group as its President while also developing the second largest ACO in Arizona, Arizona Care Network, serving over 200,000 members.
In medical education, he has worked with residency programs for Dignity Health and Maricopa Integrated Health System and has served as President of the Arizona Medical Education Consortium. In addition, Mark played a key role in bringing Creighton University School of Medicine to St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center.
Mark has served on multiple community and healthcare boards including the Healthcare Financial Management Association, America’s Physician Groups (section president), NAACOS (National Association of ACOs), Arizona Chamber of Commerce & Industry, Children’s Museum of Phoenix, and Mercy Care Plan. He is currently a member on the board for the Arizona Diabetes Association.
